The wilderness
lodge setting presents comfort within the ultimate wilderness adventure.
Alaska has some of the most incredible backcountry wilderness experiences
to be found world wide. Visitors are both humbled and exhilarated
by these experiences and often find themselves returning for more.
Wilderness adventures can vary from short guided hikes to rugged backcountry
treks catering to both novices and experts.
For the angler, Alaska offers some of the most diverse fishing opportunities.
Indulge in luxury wilderness lodges offering once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Fishing in Alaska can also be as easy as stopping along side the road
and dropping a line, or chartering a boat to help reel in one of Alaska’s
enormous halibut. Fly-in fishing and fish camps are other options
to choose from.
 |
Visitors
find themselves on halibut fishing trips, hoping to land a 50-pound
fish. Some end up landing a monster halibut weighing four or
five times that weight. |
Within
the Wild Adventure Lodges owners, Carl and Kirsten Dixon and their
staff, are pleased to present a summer selection of lodge-based and
out-camp adventures for the discriminating Alaskan backcountry traveler.
Whether it is the desire to experience the thrill of sportfishing
for salmon, watching a baby bear fish for dinner, collecting wildflowers,
hiking a mountain, snoozing in the canoe, learning to cook, picking
wild berries, trying a new wine, catching a golden sunrise, rafting
a raging river, or flying to a volcano, peruse these offerings and
begin planning a visit to “Within the Wild.” For more information,
read this section of the Alaska Insight Travel Guide or contact www.withinthewild.com.
Alaska is fishing heaven! More than 386 fish species inhabit Alaska’s
salt and fresh waters, including all five species of Pacific Salmon:
King, red, silver, chum and pink. Rivers, lakes and streams throughout
the state offer the chance to hook trout, cutthroats and steelhead,
Arctic grayling and sheefish, or Dolly Varden. Before dropping that
line in the water, be sure to contact www.sportfishinginalaska.com.
Ask for a complete guide to freshwater and saltwater fishing regulations
from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Special license stamps
are required for King salmon – these stamps are available at local
sporting goods stores.
