Family Fun!

This section is dedicated to the younger traveler seeking their own adventures in and throughout Alaska. Counting moose signs along the road, watching the Alaska Railroad pass by, catching minnows in the lake on a bright sunny day, or melting snow flakes on the tip of your tongue on a calm winters night, these are just some of the great things for Alaska’s young locals and visitors to enjoy while experiencing Alaska.

Wildlife Workshops

We are proud to present a new and exciting program series this year! Wildlife Workshops are for the whole family, with five different sessions available this winter. Programs will be held on Sunday afternoons, with dates and times to be announced soon!

• Creepy Crawlies – Learn how to care for and handle creepy crawlies! This program will feature zoo reptiles & education critters


• Holiday Recycle-Rama – Make fun holiday gifts out of recycled and Earth-friendly materials.

• The Magic of Snow – Learn the properties of snow and the many uses it has for both people and animals

• Animal Training – Participants will learn about animal training through guest speakers and demonstrations.

• Animal House Making – Learn how to make backyard habitat by constructing bird and bat houses.



Winter Camp Series

Our most popular winter program is back this year! Throughout this fall and winter, the Education Department will be offering a variety of camps for children ages 8 through 14 years. Campers will learn about arctic adaptations, behavioral enrichment, animal care, and how to have fun with their imaginations and the Alaska Zoo animals!
