Wrangell
Wrangell offers visitors a friendly taste of an authentic island community
in the middle of unique and untamed wilderness in Alaska. Wrangell
is situated on the mouth of the beautiful Stikine River, also named
the “Great River” by the Tlingits. Imagine a picturesque community
in harmony with its environment. A friendly community rich in varied
cultural heritage that holds access to premier recreational opportunities
in North America. With its attractive quality of life and economic
opportunities, it’s no wonder Wrangell has been called the hidden
jewel of Southeast Alaska.

Bald
Eagles abound as the largest springtime concentration of Bald
Eagles in the world gather on the Stikine River Delta to feed
on Hooligan! |
There are many activities to choose from in the Wrangell Area for
people of all ages! Festivities are planned for birders, wildlife
photographers, outdoor enthusiasts, families, golfers and artists.
Options for exploring the Stikine River are available in numerous
ways; by air while viewing glaciers through the coastal mountains
or by canoes, kayaks, or by raft. Take a hike up to Rainbow Falls,
a 100 foot waterfall atop a beautifully maintained boardwalk through
the lush old growth temperate rainforest. Stop by the Wrangell Museum,
they have some of the finest collection of artifacts and historically
significant pieces in Southeast Alaska and features over 5000 historic
photographs displaying the colorful history of the area from the Gold
Rush, fox farming, fishing, Russian Occcupation, to the history of
the timber industry. Stroll along Petroglyph Beach and get a taste
of Wrangell Island’s unique culture by viewing more than 40 petroglyphs!
This is the largest concentration of rock art in Southeast Alaska,
and are thought to date back 8,000 years. Consider fishing! King,
Silver and Pink Salmon are abundant in area waters from May to September.
Surrounding lakes and streams provide great opportunities for both
spin cast and fly-fishing. Visit gift shops, clothing stores, galleries
and a variety of different retail establishments offering amenities
for visitors and residents alike.
