Ketchikan

Welcome to Ketchikan!
Ketchikan is located in the heart of the Tongass National Forest.
At 17 million acres it is the largest national forest in the United
States.
As long as people have lived in this region the Tongass has provided
the means for a unique way of life. The three indigenous Pacific Northwest
Indian tribes are the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian. Native art and
culture flourishes in this area due to the large population of Native
Alaskans. Massive cedar totem poles serve as timeless monuments in
this cultured town.
Wildlife viewing can be an every day experience in the Ketchikan area.
Common are black bear, along with brown bears in the mainland. Remember,
bears can be as curious as the humans who view them. Other wildlife
viewed near Ketchikan include: Sitka black-tailed deer, mountain goats,
wolf may be sighted, moose range in the mainland and bald eagles are
everywhere!
While cruising the waters near Ketchikan, watchable sea life can be
enjoyed. Sightings of orca and humpback whales, sea lions, seals,
playful sea otters and porpoise as well as a large variety of sea
birds are a real treat.Ketchikan and neighboring Prince of Whales
Island offer an outstanding variety of fishing experiences. First
class lodges and resorts will pamper guests with personalized service
handling all aspects of the great Alaska fishing adventure.
