Kenai & Cooper Landing

In 1985 a monster King Salmon was caught in the Kenai River. This record fish weighed 97 lbs., 4 ounces!

Just when it seems sights and sounds of Alaska’s nature couldn’t get any better; head south from Anchorage where travelers round the curve then head west at the far end of Turnagain Arm, where the Kenai Peninsula offers more to discover. Experience the Seward Highway’s sleepy, roadside lodges, gift stores and cafes along the way. Then indulge in a myriad of outdoor activities waiting in the communities of Hope, Cooper Landing, Homer, Kenai, Sterling, Soldotna and Seward.

West of Tern Lake Junction travelers soon meet up with the lovely shore of Kenai Lake. This blue-green glacial lake gets its color from glacial till, or ground-up rock. At Mile 100.5 (from Anchorage) visitors come upon Bean Creek Road, which provides access to the beautiful Kenai Princess Lodge & RV Park. About one mile further is the wonderful little community of Cooper Landing. Don’t be fooled by the slow paced, laid back appearance of this place, this area serves as important headquarters for several major fishing outfitters and guides serving the Kenai River.

Visit the Russian River, this area bustles with excitement of landing the “Big One”! The Russian River is just 5 miles down the road, and is choked with trophy salmon during fishing season. The words “Fish On” linger in the air 24 hours a day.
